I have to admit, I really didn’t want to see The Hurt Locker. I wasn’t up for another war movie and certainly not one that was going to deliver a heavy handed message for two hours. So I dodged seeing it for two weeks finally caving last night. The result, it has stayed with since I left the theater, I can’t shake it. It ties together a very human story about a bomb disposal unit in the Iraq war, with edge of your seat action and an intangible element that lets you come to your own conclusions about the characters. You may start to feel that you’re watching a documentary at times as the hand held camera work takes you behind the lines but neither glorifies or deliberately horrifies the viewer. Perhaps my low expectations for this movie swung me hard in the opposite direction, I can’t be sure. But I highly recommend this movie to anyone, it’s a mind opener.
