It’s been mentioned to me that I don’t really read enough and mostly just scan things. Taking stock of myself I think that’s a fair assessment. When I read a book though, I carve out time where I’ll be uninterrupted and then read carefully, often rereading and immersing myself in the content. When it comes to content on screen though, that’s when I tend to really just scan things.

That whole first paragraph is just to lead up to an infrequent occurrence that happened today when I came across this long article about football head injuries in the New Yorker online. There are some interesting observations about the trauma of repeated impacts to the head. I’ve taken a couple of such impacts many years ago in my short and pathetic high school football “career”, one memorable one which left me gazing up at the sky wondering how it could be so blue.
