Yesterday took a major nose dive at the end of the day. One of my freelance project websites disappeared for several hours causing my client and I much frustration and gnashing of teeth. On the way home I stopped at Barnes and Noble to do a little Christmas shopping. They didn’t have a book (actually three) that I was looking for so I gave up. I had brought with me a coupon that I had which was good for yesterday only and would give me forty percent off of any one item. Since I wasn’t going to use it I thought I’d do a good deed in the spirit of the season and give it to someone else. Maybe its a sign of the times or just a sign of where I live but each of the five people that I tried to give this thing to looked at me like I was offering them either a beating or to cheat them out of their life savings. I gave up and on my way out attempted to give the thing to a cashier, thinking that they might want to spread some holiday niceness. I received one of the blankest stares that I’ve ever seen followed by tentatively touching the paper like it was smeared with blood or might blowup.
